Supernova: Zayra Must Go

For the past few weeks, Supernova – a new group pieced together from Motley Crue (Tommy Lee), Metallica (Jason Newsted) and Guns N' Roses (Gilby Clarke) – has been auditioning lead singers on CBS, and some are quite good like Dilana, Josh and Storm. But then there’s Zayra.
Zayra Alvarez is a hot-blooded and, at times, a hot-tempered chica, who’s not averse to giving lip to her would-be bosses. We think she’s even mentioned that she doesn’t own many of their albums. She can’t sing very well either. But the only reason the band hasn’t kicked her off yet is probably because she looks good in tight clothing. (We’re not hatin’ when we say this, but we think she kind of looks like Celine Dion in a dark brunette wig.)
So last night, Zayra chose to “perform” a hard-rock version of Tommy’s Tutone’s “867-5309 (Jenny).” Wow. To complement her unique vocal stylings, she chose to wear a black cape, go-go boots and a trapeze artist’s uniform. (Is Ringling Bros. in town this week?)
After she finished, Supernova members and judges were beside themselves, speechless. Judge Dave Navarro summed up the moment before cutting to commercial: “I’m gonna need some time to process that.”
Guys, it’s been fun watching Zayra’s antics, but now it’s really time to get serious about your singer. This is Rock Star, not America's Got Talent.
