Dodgers Score Greg Maddux, Julio Lugo

maddux1.jpg

The four-time Cy Young winner needs to fire his agent. How could Greg Maddux allow Scott Boras to trade him from one 5th place team to another when there are pennant races happening? Does the 40 yr-old Hall of Fame lock seriously have no interest in being a part of the Yankees run? Or even the Padres?

Maddux has 9 wins on a Cubs team that has won only 43. He and ace Carlos Zambrano have combined for almost half of the wins on a team that entered the season with the promise of Kerry Wood and Mark Prior in the rotation. Neither of those promises came true; add with that the injury of Derrek Lee at Dodger Stadium early this year and that means The Professor is available.

One can only speculate that the reason that the reason the 327 game-winner waived his no-trade clause was because his Vegas home is a short flight away.

The Dodgers weren't done dealing, as they sent two minor leaguers to Tampa Bay for shortstop Julio Lugo, who hit .308 with 12 homers so far this season, with 18 stolen bases in just 73 games. He was on the DL for a month with an abdominal strain and will probably play second while Jeff Kent rehabs his wrist.

Tony,

Maddux may have gone from 5th to 5th, but he picked up 7 games in the wild card race and 10.5 in the divisional race.

And hell, if you can leave Chicago for LA, why not Maddux?

i left to meet skankier chicks.

if maddux wanted to be in the pennant chase he should have gone to the padres

And if not to a contender, then maybe back to the Braves to finish out the career. His ERA is taking bigger and bigger jumps every year, and he's not getting any younger.
