It's going to be a long time before any of this happens. If it happens. LA Mayor Villaraigosa and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom might go head to head for Governor. Both deny it though.
A little closer to home, two bloggers debate over annexation and other issues in the Santa Clarita Valley. Should Stevenson Ranch, which has the highest sales-tax-revenue-generating strip mall in all of the county's jurisdiction, annex into the city of Santa Clarita? Both entertainment industry types by day, local political bloggers by night, we welcome the two North County bloggers to our community (The West Ranch Beacon & SCVTalk)
Making it easier to hail a cab downtown, Ventura Blvd., Westwood Blvd. and other places? Daily News calls it "Manhattanization."
Steve Hymon's Q & A talks of the power outages, biking from the Valley to Downtown, Little Antonio's death and more.

Funny that the Daily News has historically used the term "Manhattanization" as a term to rile up Valleyites (i.e., "the Manhattanization of the 101 corridor should be stopped," etc.) and is now using it in a positive (or at least neutral) way.
This is one of the more important -- even if as seemingly insignificant as changing a couple ordinances -- to make Los Angeles a more pedestrian-friendly city.
Maybe Tony and Gavin could please finish governing L.A. and S.F. before they move on to the whole state?
I'm for easing the restrictions on the cabs, but as long as they gain the benefits inherent to New York, they should also be required to have a similar "riders bill of rights":
As a taxi rider, you have the right to:
*Direct the destination and route used;
*Travel to any destination in the five borouhs of the City of New York;
*A courteous, English-speaking driver who knows the streets in Manhattan and the way to major destinations in other boroughs;
*A driver who knows and obeys all traffic laws;
*Air-conditioning on demand;
*A radio-free (silent) trip;
*Smoke and incense-free air;
*A clean passenger seat area;
*A clean trunk
*A driver who uses the horn only when necessary to warn of danger; and
*Refuse to tip, if the above are not complied with.
