Nomar Still Has a Chance for All-Star Game

nomar.jpg

Dodger first baseman Nomar Garciaparra was not voted into the MLB All-Star game's starting lineup or chosen as a reserve despite a spectacular comeback and .360+ batting average. But the converted shortstop has, many of us here at LAist think, a good chance of earning the National League's selection as the Final Vote.

Now in its fifth year, the Final Vote lets fans select the last member of both the AL and NL squads via text message and Internet. MLB picks five members from each league to vote on, and the winner makes the cut.

Travis Hafner, Ramon Hernandez, Francisco Liriano, A.J. Pierzynski, and Justin Verlander are on the Final Vote ballot in the AL; Bobby Abreu, Chris Capuano, Billy Wagner, and Chris Young are on the ballot with Nomar for the NL.

Click here to find out more about how to cast your vote.

Excluding the Final Man vote, the Dodgers will be represented by pitcher Brad Penny, and the Angels by outfielder Vlad Guerrero.

The fact that Nomar isn't on the team already is simply ridiculous. Yet not as ridiculous as the entire MLB All Star selection process.

I woted for him about 500 times for the final man vote one night at work. I was so excited he got in, only to have him not play... Oh well. Why can't the NL ever win?
