Photo Moment: Downtown LA, Saturday

Last weekend the downtown area had an interesting situation. Al Gore, the former VP was introducing his well-received documentary "An Inconvienent Truth", a film about how to clean up the Earth; meanwhile, about a half mile away at the Convention Center, tens of thousands of fans of adult films were getting autographs of their favorite stars as they celebrated all things dirrrty.

In what appears to be a dramatic change in the typical hey-look-who-i-met pose, LAist is now really upset that we didn't go to the Erotic LA convention. Talk about a Christmas card.

The photo by Luke Ford, who also posts his pictures on Buzznet (both links nsfw), wrote this on his website about the event on Saturday:

I walk into Erotica LA at 11:10 a.m. and see Alicia Rio. I raise my camera. She puts out her hand to stop me. "I charge!" she says.

"Press," I say and show my badge.

"Oh, you've written bad things about me," Alicia says.

"I haven't written anything about you [for many months]."

"That's what Dominic says.

"Anyway, I'm not comfortable with how my body looks. I don't want a lot of pictures."

An hour later, I run into Alicia again and she apologizes for jumping down my throat.

I don't try to take her picture.

We always knew the LA Weekly coverboy was a gentleman.
You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
