Nice 14 K's and near No Hitter, Jered Weaver
When the Angels sent their best prospect, if not their current ace, down to AAA Salt Lake, we made a promise to you that we'd keep an eye on him for you.
Well last night 6' 7" Jered Weaver whiffed 14 Sacto River Cats in a 1-0 shutout that was a near-no hitter. Setting a SLC Bee record for k's, the LA native had a perfect game through five innings and didn't allow a hit until two outs in the seventh. And if that wasnt enough he struck out the side in the 9th to send a message not just to the big club but to the rest of AAA that his last outing, his first game back with the Bees, one in which he was rocked for 11 hits in 5 innings, was a fluke, while his 4-0 record and 1.37 ERA for the Angels was not luck.
Meanwhile Jered's brother Jeff, who probably should be down in Salt Lake has still hasn't earned a win in the month of June, as his last two starts have lead to no-decisions. Jeff has been pitching better since his 11-hit loss against the Dodgers in mid-may.
The Halos remain in last place in the AL West despite a nice little three-game winning streak including the second win in a row tonight over the Arizona D'backs.
