Live tonight: John Bennett, Leon Russell, The Groovy Rednecks

John Bennett and hot chick

John Bennett, not the US Rep from Michigan, not the acting governor of New Jersey, but the dashing troubador formerly of San Francisco, and now of Hollywood, is releasing his "here tomorrow" under the name Johnny Bennett. A little more stripped-down acoustic flavor than his previous material, Bennett's record-release party will be tonight at 9pm downstairs at the Key Club on Sunset. If you close your eyes you might think you're at an Anthony Kiedis solo show.

Out in Malibu tonight studio legend Leon Russell will perfom at the Malibu Inn on PCH. Russell who sat in with the Stones, Dylan, Clapton, Sinatra, and was a mainstay in the Phil Spector wall of sound, has written hundreds of tunes over the years that were covered by the likes of Ray Charles, B.B. King, Joe Cocker and Willie Nelson. And yes that's him playing piano on the Beach Boys classic "California Girls".

Eagle Rock, where you at? LA legends, the Groovy Rednecks will be bringing their country twang to SW Hill Country on 1412 Colorado Blvd in Eagle Rock tonight. Known for their country music for people who hate country (aka terrorists), the Rednecks will also be at the Knitting Factory on Monday. Hopefully they'll play that one tune that starts off "How come I only love you when I'm drunk."

And of course, there's the punk rock of The Bronx + the hard rock of Priestess at Alex's tonight, as Duke told you yesterday.
