AM news: little people, fires, no condos and a park

the dwarfs are a hit! - West Magazine's cover story is on bullfighting Little People in Mexico (with online video, cha cha). What with Little People, Big World and the paper's own massively popular story of the battle between Little People Kiss cover bands — which made it all the way to the Daily Show — we see a trend. Little People are hot!

fire starter - Speaking of hot ... authorities have announced that the fire season has begun &mdash if you noticed it was hotter than Hades yesterday, you're not surprised. In Riverside County, firefighters are already battling a 220-acre wildfire, which they hope to have under control today.

hi-rise begone - Santa Monica residents are sighing with relief today: Macerich Company has withdrawn its plans to turn Santa Monica Place Mall into three 21-story condo towers. Instead, the mall, designed by (go on, guess a local star architect. Right!) Frank Gehry, will instead be renovated. Plans are to change the roof so the mall has views of the 3rd Street Promenade and the beach.

our Central Park - Today the Daily News calls Griffith Park LA's Central Park. If you're not convinced, you could give the park a visit. Or, if you think it's too hot for you to move away from your computer, the paper has a handy interactive tour online.
