On Guard! Last Remaining Seats!

markofzorro.jpg

In the swashbuckling 1940 Zorro movie, called The Mark of Zorro, the handsome Tyrone Power plays the hero; he was so impressive, even the actor playing his nemesis swooned. Basil Rathbone said, "Power was the most agile man with a sword I’ve ever faced before a camera. Tyrone could have fenced Errol Flynn into a cocked hat." We've never seen Power's Zorro, and now we think we really should. On the big screen.

And we're in luck, because tonight kicks off the LA Conservancy's Last Remaining Seats summer movie fest, and The Mark of Zorro is the opener. Last Remaining Seats shows classic films on the big screens of the fantastic movie palaces on Broadway in downtown LA. Back when they started the series, Broadway at night was a bit hairy-scary; now with the Broadway Bar and Golden Gopher walking distance from the screenings, the Last Remaining Seats evenings have a lot of promise. Two shows have sold out, but you can still grab tickets to:

A Star Is Born (Judy Garland version) on June 7
Dos Tipos de Ciudado on June 28 (with music beforehand by Ollin)
Rebel Without A Cause on July 5

We hear there are still tickets available for tonight's screening of The Mark of Zorro, but online sales have closed. You'll have to get them at the door of the Los Angeles Theater, 615 S. Broadway; doors open at 7pm.
