AM news: terror, failed dates, fire and funds

target this - 46 cities will be getting counterterrorism grants in a new round of funding from the Department of Homeland Security. The good news is, we're on the list. The bad news is they're only passing out a total of $270 million.

adding insult to injury - A woman who paid $125,000 to a Beverly Hills matchmaker sued after not finding the right guy. Yesterday she was awarded $2.1 million in the case — isn't that kind of like getting paid for being a loser?

bad kitty - City Councilman Dennis Zine is making moves to get the Frisky Kitty "adult club" out of Reseda. A zoning study will go forward looking into whether the strip club is too close to a residential neighborhood.

afire - A fire raged through a Westlake apartment building for about 20 minutes this morning. No reports yet on whether there were any injuries; the fire occured at 930 South Bonnie Brae St.

firefighter fundraiser - The 9th annual Hope for Firefighters event takes place tomorrow downtown on, of all things, Hope Street. There are games and races and, if we remember correctly, a massive barbecue. Dollars raised go to the LA Fire Department's Widows and Orphans Fund.

Carolyn:

Thanks for the post. There will indeed be barbecue - and many other savory dishes being served from thirty food booths. It is a wonderful event and we hope to see you there!
