New finds are a tricky thing. There are those websites, diners, dives that some may stumble upon and have no desire to share. Of course that is not the LAist way, by signing on to this gig it is part of our “Bloggers Code of Ethics” to share share share. And so, I present Pandora, aka the Music Genome Project. It’s a streaming radio station that you create on your own.

How does it work? You type in an artist or song and once Pandora verifies the information it creates a music station based on the musical influences of the item you typed in. With each song you can either give it the thumbs up or down (thumbs down skips to the next song) and the more you rate the songs the more precise the station becomes. You can also skip a song (but not too many within the same hour). Choose songs are your “favorites” and they are saved into a list where you can later buy the songs on iTunes if you want. Create different stations for your moods – you know – Indie, Coachella Mix or a current favorite of ours dubbed Pink Houses with old Mellancamp, Springsteen and Elliott Smith.
