Who is this man? What does he want? Why, why is he stuck to the wall of an apartment building at 9th and St. Andrews? Admittedly, it is Koreatown, but most buildings don't have men pasted on them. Will he really fight for us? Is he ready to hit us with an uppercut?
LAist does not read Korean so we are baffled. We can read the English on the pasteup and, since it's not quite legible, we're happy to share that the Mystery Man attended Claremont McKenna College, getting a degree in Political Science in 1982, and then got his law degree from Pepperdine in 1986. Over on the right, amongst the Korean characters, are the words Lions Club. So he's upstanding.
But that's just not enough. Do you know what he wants from us? Is he nice? Is he your dad?

Hi, he's not my dad, but my friend (who's a fluent Korean speaker) told me that this guy's running for the President of the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles, and his slogan is: "If we come together, hope is our future." Not quite "Imma hit you with an uppercut." Haha.
The red writing reads something like, "If we stick together, out future is hope." (Somehow I butchered that lame line.)
And from big black writings I can make out, I guess he's running to be a prez for Korean-American Federation of LA? http://www.koreanfed.org/
I'm not sure.
I thought he was some pastor for a church.
Dang, I'm so slow.
Thanks Sarah & Dood! You both rule.
I'm still wondering why he's stuck to the side of an apartment building -- but heck, he probably owns the apartment building.
I'm most impressed that the background of the poster matches the wall color so well.
I'm so tempted to refer to the Korean-Am Federation as K-Fed.
This kinda stuff happens all the time in Korea. It was the first place where I saw full color billboards of middle aged men in macho, but friendly, posses going for some public office or another.
as a follow up fyi, he lost. the election was past saturday. it was nuts. it was probably the most competitive k-fed election ever. among the 4 candidates, he came last. he might have been the most qualified though. he atleast speaks english.
