Goodbye DJ Dusk

laist_djdusk.jpg

We've listened to his J Dilla tribute mix at least 10 times since James Yancey died in February and now we have to say goodbye to him as well? We're not ready to let go of an integral part of The Root Down and one of our favorite turntablists at Fusicology events. Tarek Captan aka DJ Dusk was killed Saturday night by a drunk driver. He was 31.

Fusicology eulogizes:

A long-standing member of the world famous Rootdown Sound System and Descarga Familia, Dusk swiftly shifted gears from soul to disco to reggae to latin to hip hop and house. As a student of the late Rob One (RIP), Dusk spent his early years diggin' in the crates with some of LA's finest, including Cut Chemist and Marvelous Marvski.

If you can get your hands on Dusk's Top Ranking Volume 1, you really should. It's a dub & dancehall rare grooves headnod masterpiece.

His family is looking for any photos, stories or tributes you might have for his memorial service.

Peace out, Dusk.
