AM news: run for Gov and coffee, LAUSD, subway

hello guvner Over the weekend, the California Democratic Party made Phil Angelides their choice to run for Governor against Arnie. Angelides, who is State Treasurer, appears to be a solid liberal democrat. We just wish he didn't look so much like Ben Stein.

whose LAUSD? Superintendent Roy Romer is expected to depart LAUSD this fall. Does this mean Mayor Villaraigosa has the perfect opportunity to set his takeover plans in motion? Well, one watcher tells the Daily News that they don't see strong leaders lining up to step into Romer's shoes: "What talented professional would want to put their hat in the ring when there's so much uncertainty?"

luv yer subway When gas prices exceed $3 all over the city, LA commuters turn to the subway. The Downtown News reports that first-quarter subway ridership spiked 11% over last year.

coffee time Harried assistants at William Morris will be getting their bosses cups of Starbucks from the office kitchen, we're guessing, now that the coffee chain has signed with the talent agency.
