AM news: The immigrants are coming!

The sky is falling! The LA Times gets a bit Chicken Little with the dire headline LA Authorities Brace for Huge Immigration Marches and, on the web, LAPD Planning for a Half-Million at Monday's Marches; both headlines lead to this story, which quickly points out that no one expects violence. They're just worried about traffic.

stay in school Yesterday Mayor V repeated his call for students to remain in classes during Monday's pro-immigration marches, emphasizing the importance of education. "After school, they can join a march," he said, which sounds reasonable to us. But if we were in 8th grade, we'd be so outta there.

State Senate says March! Meanwhile, yesterday the California State Senate endorsed Monday's pro-immigrant boycott of schools, jobs and stores. "It's one day ... for immigrants to tell the country peacefully, 'We matter ... (we're) not invisible,'" said Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero of Los Angeles, the resolution's chief author.

Monday march and more The post-school, Mayor Villaraigosa and Cardinal Mahoney approved march begins at MacArthur Park at 3pm on Monday. There are also calls to wear white t-shirts to show solidarity with immigrants. Of course there's a general boycott — buy nothing, sell nothing, do no work or business. Sounds like there'll be a lot of pre-march blogging to us.
