For 76 years, Los Angeles has held a Blessing of the Animals on Olvera Street at the north end of downtown Los Angeles. Back in the 1930s it was mostly about donkeys and chickens, but now people show up with their household pets. From mice to snakes, parrots to kitties, chihuahuas to iguanas, llamas to labradors, all animals are welcome — but a cow still gets to lead the procession. Cardinal Mahoney will officiate.
The 2006 Blessing of the Animals will be a week from today, on the Saturday before Easter. People will start to gather with their feathered, furry and scale-y loved ones at noon; the blessing is at 2pm.

I remember my parents taking me and cat to this event when I was four years old.
The wife and I have gone the last couple of years with Buster our Russian Tortoise to get spritzed with holy water by Cardinal Mahony. It's a great event made all the more better with margaritas and nachos at Olvera Street's El Paseo Inn!
