AM news: MIT hackers, mom, power, danger

mitcannon.jpg

A cross-country rivalry: MIT students have stolen a cannon from CalTech and set it up on their campus, 3,000 miles away, adorned with an enormous MIT class ring. The hackers (the LAT calls them "pranksters") came to LA and dressed as workers from Howe & Ser Moving Company to liberate the cannon. Luckily, administrators aren't pissed.

Redo your mom: in 100 words or less, tell Channel 2 why your mother should get one of their five Mother's Day Makeovers. Your categories: Fantasy Bedroom, Secret Garden, Garage Clutter Free, A New You and Makeover Your Man. Each prize is worth $600. We suggest going cute and writing the entry for yourself in the voice of your dog or infant. If you win, let us know.

A map to green power: Yesterday the Burbank Water and Power Board approved a five-year roadmap to increase energy output. It includes plans to reach a goal of 20% renewable energy by 2017.

Danger on the mountain: Three ski patrol officers died at Mammoth yesterday. After a heavy snowfall they were attempting to create a barrier around a volcanic vent, also known as a fumarole, and fell in. Fumaroles often vent toxic fumes; either fumes or the falls were the cause of death. Seven others were injured.
