P(art)y into the night at LACMA

LACMA throws open its doors for 4 days, starting by staying open until 3am tonight — the museum is throwing itself a 40th birthday party. Entry to the museum's galleries will be absolutely free; shows include prints of Ed Ruscha and a Miro to Warhol collection. Tonight there will be music until 3am, with DJs set up in the plaza until 10am and then moving indoors. Or if you don't want to dance, we hear Art School Confidential, the Daniel Clowes/Terry Swigoff feature film, is pretty good; it screens at 8pm.

Over the weekend there are lectures, classes, and audio tours for kids. Friday and Saturday night include Judy Holliday double features. Plus there will be jazz Friday evening and classical Sunday evening. Plus cupcakes. LACMA promises there will be cupcakes.

They recommend making an online reservation; it's all free, but maybe it'll give you priority for the cupcakes.
