Feeling mighty? Morning show seeks host

radiocloseup.jpg

If you liked your Dicky Barret in the morning, you're not alone. His Mighty Morning Show disappeared from the Indie 103.1 airwaves this week and radio listeners are bemoaning its loss all over the internets.

Mack Reed over at LA Voice got the complete scoop. While management says Barret left on his own, one fan says he got an e-mail from Dicky that said he'd been fired, plain and simple. Since the show disappeared without warning, and it was virtually erased from the 103.1 website, we're inclined to go with fired.

Now the station is calling for audition tapes. The ad says, in part, "Send your stuff to [program director Michael Steele] msteele@entravision.com." Or you could, uh, drop him a note telling him what kind of morning show you'd like to hear.

this is terrible news, i have sirius and i don't listen to the radio much. But whenever i did, it was indie all the way. He would pick the best songs to play in the morning and unlike all the other radio hosts he made me laugh.

Is rock going to die in la like it did in new york?

I never got why he felt the need to have tattooing machines droning on in the background.

uhm, that was only once a week for "tattoo-sday". did you not ever once hear him mention that?

i agree it's terrible news. if i ever listen to the radio, it's only ever indie. anyone know the actual reason??

Enh, 103.1 was a lot better when they played more music during morning drive time than with Dickie's shtick. Even if he was one of the best wacky morning guys out there, he was still a wacky morning guy, and that's the last thing I want to hear at 7:30 on a Wednesday morning when I'm half-asleep and fighting traffic on the 10.
