AM news: smog, Sudan, Compton, no groping

We're #2! It's no fun being up near the top of the list of the most toxic air in the nation, except that we trail New York. Just think: without the AQMD, we probably would have been #1.

Last week UC Regents, meeting at UCLA, voted to divest from companies doing business in the Sudan. Students, who led the divestment effort, say their achievement "represents student activism of the 21st century."

Good news, this year, for Compton: homicides are way down. In the first 2.5 months of 2006 there have been just 3, whereas last year there were 22. People credit the Sheriff's department's involvement. Of course, for the families of those 3 victims, 3 is too many.

No groping for you: a Aerolitoral pilot in town from a flight to LAX was taken into custody when he asked a dress shop owner to try on clothes for him. Sounds innocent, but he'd made a habit of doing this, then moving to adjust the clothes and instead feel up the salesgirl wearing them. Shouldn't wearing his pilot's uniform get him some legit action?
