Events: Wine, Readings, Peruvian Food

Architecture Symposium at UCLA Hammer Museum on Saturday

Monday: Chill with Winos
It’s Blue Monday at Silver Lake Wine from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. No RSVPs required for tonight’s triptych wine tasting with cheese from the Cheese Store of Silver Lake.

Tuesday: Weekly Poetry in the Valley
Hosted by Kirk Lumpkin, every Tuesday night is open mic night with the Cobalt Poets at the Cobalt Café in Canoga Park. They promise a very welcoming crowd for newcomers, but just wait until your second visit. Reading starts at 9:00 p.m. with sign ups at 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Flaneur
Since his Thursday appearance at ALOUD LA is filled up, Lawrence Weschler will be at Skylight Books at 7:30 p.m. If you don’t know Weschler, you might know of his book about Culver City’s Museum of Jurassic Technology. However, he’ll be talking about his newest book – A Wanderer in the Perfect City: Selected Passion Pieces.

Thursday: House History
To discuss Wallace Neff, the residential and California Architect to the stars, author Diane Kanner will hold a discussion on her new book – Wallace Neff and the Grand House – at the Los Feliz Branch Library at 6:45 p.m. (via PreserveLA)

Friday: Peruvian Lunch
Forget green beer and meat cobbler for St. Patrick’s Day, Museum of Latin American Art (MoLAA) will be hosting Sabor Latino: A Peruvian Experience, a palatable lunchtime event from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

Saturday: Architecture Symposium
Held in honor of Thomas Hines’ 38 years at UCLA, Modernism and Regionalism: Art and Life in 20th-Century Los Angeles will feature keynote speaker, Kevin Starr, among others to discuss “selected issues of cultural history of 20th century Los Angeles.” It is free, but reservations are strongly recommended and since the deadline was last Friday, we hope there still is room available. The all day at the UCLA Hammer Museum event begins at 9:00 a.m.

Sunday: Run, Run, Run, Run, Puke, Run!
L.A. Marathon is upon us this Sunday, the 19th. Hotels are booked up, streets will be closed, and you’ll be a) running b) cheering c) still sleeping d) fill in the blank.

I'm escaping from the traffic-clogging Marathon by going up to Paso Robles for the Zinfandel Festival. Screw running! Try guzzling!
