Should an earthquake come our way, California bridges will be falling down. The LA Times reviewed official records and found that 600 bridges don't meet earthquake safety standards.

Snow days! Some schools in Lake Arrowhead and Hemet will be closed due to snow today. Cool.

UCLA students want the UC system to divest from companies with business operations in Sudan. The UC trustees are expected to vote on the issue when they get together in Westwood later this week.

KCRW DJ Chris Douridas: good guy or sex offender? The DA's office has yet to decide whether to file charges related to his January 6 arrest, when he was either helping or kidnapping a 14-year old girl at a bar. He'd either seen her become ill and was getting her outside for fresh air, or he'd slipped something into her drink and was taking her away. What do you think — perv or wrongly accused?

Innocent until proven guilty, however a few things make it look not so good for Chris.

- He was arrested for cocaine and Ecstasy a few years ago in Florida. Doesn't make him guilty, of course...

- If you saw a 14 year old in a bar, the right thing to do would probably be to tell her she's a little young to be in there, rather than have a drink with her. I suppose you could argue she may have looked "of age," but that's unlikely. Plus, how old is the guy? Even is she looked 21, that's a little young for him, really.

- If you saw a 14 year old in a bar that was sick, the thing to do would probably be to alert management, other people you are with, or even strangers around you.

- Unless this is a frame-up, there is at least one witness who says he or she saw Douridas slip sometihng in the girl's drink.

- He was apparently seen CARRYING the girl out of the bar. That is odd, and again, you'd think he'd ask for help, alert, authorities, even call police or paramedics.

KCRW Host Faces Drug, Not Sex, Charge
June 27, 2006
By Sven Philipp

More than five months after his arrest, trend-setting triple A KCRW Santa Monica host Chris Douridas has been charged with drug possession, but faces no prosecution for an alleged sex crime.

In January, Douridas was taken into custody by police outside a Santa Monica nightclub after eye witnesses reported that the 43-year old had slipped a substance into a teenager’s drink, who became so ill that she had to be hospitalized. Douridis was jailed and released several days later on a $1 million bail.

Following an investigation, Douridas was charged Monday (June 26) with one count of felony for possession of cocaine, The Los Angeles Times reports. He will be arraigned Friday (June 30) in Los Angeles County Superior Court. If convicted, Douridas could face three years in prison and fines up to $10,000.

This is not the first time longtime KCRW contributor and taste-maker Douridas has been charged with illegal drug possession. In 1999, he was placed on two years on probation, after being arrested in Florida on suspicion of cocaine and ecstasy.

KCRW will continue to broadcast Douridas’ weekly two-hour program “New Ground” despite the drug charge, assistant GM Jennifer Ferro told The Times.

Since relinquishing his daily “Morning Becomes Eclectic” show on KCRW, Douridas's musical tentacles have stretched far and wide. In addition to culling TV and movie soundtracks, he hosted a season of Sessions At West 54th Street for PBS. He is also credited as a music supervisor for Hollywood movies such as Shrek 2, Grosse Pointe Blank, the Austin Powers series and American Beauty, for which he received a Grammy nomination.

No stranger to the digital world, Douridas has also been music tastemaker for Apple Computer, helping to launch the iTunes Originals performances series and oversee the iTunes Essentials downloadable playlist series.
