Can't Wait for Failure -- To Launch

When did Matthew McConaughey become the new Meg Ryan?

He’s been in a few rom-coms—How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Wedding Planner and now, he's co-starring in a movie that quite possibly could have the worst title in the history of film. Ever. Failure to Launch. Isn't it bad luck in Hollywood to have "failure" in a title? Well, it should be. Couple that word with "to launch," and there are just too many loaded jokes to list.

Here’s the movie in a nutshell from the film’s official site:

Tripp (Matthew McConaughey) has never been able to leave the nest. He’s always had some reason or other, but now, his desperate parents have had enough. They hire the gorgeous and talented girl of his dreams (Sarah Jessica Parker) to get him to move out of the house.

The trailer doesn't make the movie's plot any more enticing. Who'd be rooting for a 30-something, good-time, man-child to leave his parents' house? And what about the woman who gets paid to seduce a man? Hmm. That was so Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. Been there, done that.

So it looks like LAist won't be watching Matthew's latest foray into When Harry Met Sally territory this opening weekend. And from the looks of early reviews, Failure might not launch this weekend after all.
