Hollywood birthdays: dancing, baseball, cars

cyd_charisse.jpgCyd Charisse danced with the best in movie musicals, including Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly. In 1952 her legs were insured for $5 million. Today is her 85th birthday.

In other piping hot birthday news, Freddie Prinze, Jr is 30; Aidan Quinn is 47 and Camryn Manheim is 45. But it's fair to say the best actor of all today's birthday boys and girls is Lynn Redgrave, who turns 63.

Onetime major league pitcher Jim Bouton, who acted in Robert Altman's The Long Goodbye, turns 67. He wrote the scandalous behind-the-baseball book, Ball Four. Writer Jeffrey Eugenides (The Virgin Suicides) is 46.

Gary Numan (the musician who sang "Cars") was born Gary Anthony James Webb 48 years ago today.

And today life is pretty good for James Van Der Beek, despite the fact that his career hasn't eactly been huge since he starred in "Dawson's Creek." At least he's not carrying the spawn of Tom Cruise. Today he turns 29.
