<description>&lt;p&gt;Check out this topographic map of downtown LA.  The small red cross is positioned at the site of the &quot;tar&quot; seepage.
 Notice the oil well just a couple of blocks to the south?Here is the same area as an aerial view from Windows Live Local.You&apos;ll have to scroll the view a bit to see it, but it appears there is some sort of petroleum-related facility at the location where the topo map shows the oil well.

<description>&lt;p&gt;Might it be, y&apos;know, oil?  They seem to find that everywhere around here.

I predict that oil seeps are going to appear in all sorts of unexpected places over the next few years as still-productive oil wells are replaced by housing tracts.&lt;/p&gt;</description>
