Castles We Love?

Castle House on Hortense St., West Toluca Lake

New Rule: If you build your house to be a castle in a nice and quaint residential neighborhood, your 3rd Amendment rights are stricken.

This house on Hortense St. in West Toluca Lake (come on, it's really NoHo) just made our day. We wish we could live next door and tell our friends when giving directions, "Just look for the house to the left of the castle."

Is this L.A. Insensitivity or just what makes L.A....L.A.?

If you like stucco-castle architecture, you should check out Wes Clark's The Second Battle of Cahuenga Pass and the War Lords of Burbank.

Wow, Glen, that was excellent. Thanks for the tip!

Besides the West Toluca Lake (which was confirmed as such by the late Councilman Ferraro - the first of many "new Tolucas") castle in the original post here, there are four other non-Burbank homes (see comment above) that are castles in the Valley:
1. In Sherman Oaks, on the northwest Corner of Chandler & Fulton, a pinkish castle stands since the late 80s/early 90s. Most recently, Notary Public signs were seen in the yard.

2. In Sunland-Tujunga, the French architect Dumas built Weatherwolde Castle in 1928. It was modeled after a 16th Century French Normandy Castle. It is one of only three such castles remaining in Tujunga and represents a style of architecture unique to the Tujunga community. Another of these is in the 10200 block of Tujunga Canyon Boulevard - the local Blarney Castle, a small version of the castle in Ireland.
