Mayor Ray Nagin and his n'awlins constituents might not know this but LA has had it's own Chocolate City for the past 10 years. Garth Trinidad has been the wizard of sound for KCRW's Chocolate City program since 1996 and has been the key figure in launching important "urban alternative" acts for that time. It is safe to say that without Chocolate City, artists like Jill Scott and Goapele and labels like Ubiquity would have had a much harder time finding success in the the contemporary music market.
Well, tonight, you can celebrate with Garth and the rest of the Chocolate City faithful at The Roxy. Van Hunt, J-Davey and Res are performing. Crazy Macy Gray is DJing the afterparty and much much more is in store, we're sure. Tickets are $35 at the door (it's probably too late to rock the pre-sale) and you can get VIP access for a pricey $130.
9pm, 21 and over.
We still haven't gotten over Garth moving Chocolate City to one night a week (and Saturdays no less) instead of the daily 10 - midnight spot, he used to hold down but we won't hold that against him.
At least not tonight. It's a celebration.

Thanks for the heads up. I love Garth Trinidad and was definitely sad when I heard he wouldn't be doing Chocolate City nightly. $35 is a bit steep, even if it does include Res and Van Hunt.
White Chocolate City is a cool website to see what may happen to New Orleans. If Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu wins against Mayor "Willie" Nagin it will be a White Chocolate City. Also have hats and t-shirts to make your own statement. Wonder what MLK would think of Willie's speech. Nagin will be eating white chocolate.
