Blasphemous rumors allayed: Coachella lineup announced

coachella.jpg

Coachella, the 100-plus-degree Woodstock of the West has announced its 2006 lineup. As rumors had predicted, Depeche Mode will perform in the unofficial "I love the 80s" slot. We're surprised that rumors of Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine reuniting haven't proved true. Maybe concert organizers are holding back a few "surprise guests" to goose ticket sales down the line.

Combining the lists from Billboard and the LA Times, the confirmed bands include: Depeche Mode, Tool, Franz Ferdinand, Paul Oakenfold, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Common, My Morning Jacket, Bloc Party, Sigur Rós, Scissor Sisters, Matisyahu, TV on the Radio, Danger Mouse, Damien Marley, HARD-Fi, She Wants Revenge, Cat Power and the Like.

The complete official list isn't on the Coachalla site yet, so there's still some hope for Rogue Wave, Lady Sovereign, the New Pornographers, Wolf Parade, the Subways, Devendra Banhardt and Sufjan Stevens (just keeping those rumors alive a little longer).

An I love the 80's spot for DM?

I know I'm taking that harder than I should for being a DM fan, but seriously, DM had their biggest hits in the 90's, not the 80's. That was kind of a low blow, but like I said, I'm probably taking this like the hardcore DM freak that I am.
