The first night of the Holly Trolley was a slow one, even driving the route empty at times. But with not even half the press and advertising the Orange Line received, the trolley will build its audience like any good restaurant or club does - buzz.
Thursday nights in Hollywood are not always the place to be. Tonight will be the true test of the Holly Trolley as Hollywood Boulevard becomes gridlocked, lines form outside clubs, and foot traffic is plentiful. Sara and George Misa from West L.A. checked it out after drinks at Joseph's Cafe. After their test ride, they want to make use of the service by parking in one spot, getting dinner, and then heading to a club in the opposite side of Hollywood.
In November, Eric Garcetti, who spearheaded the project from the city's end, told Warren Olney on Which Way L.A.? that "we are going to admit we are a city finally, not a sprawling suburb... Our best friend is really going to be density in this city" With that, LAist gives kudos to the Holly Trolley as a good idea that is a new take on TOD. Let the party bus roll on!

As a temporarily transplanted New Yorker, I have to say, I am very confused by this. A trolley for a few blocks that measure a very walkable distance? I respect the cute effort to connect this sprawling city, but a true "party bus" would actally connect different neighborhoods and people.
Personally, I'm very enthusiastic about this trolley. It may be walkable distances, but time is of the essence in Tinseltown - making it on the g-list by a certain time, moving your car by 1:30AM on the boulevard, etc. With Sirius radio bumpin' on this trolley, as well as riding along with some articulate social beings, this may well be THE next hot ride!
Im in agreement with Lucy. This is a great idea, but like how the majority of Angelenos feel about our very own subway "I would take it if it actually went somewhere."
Vine to Highland is a very short walkable distance. An enjoyable scenic urban walk, for that matter. What would be a more efficient Holly Trolly was one that went contunued throuh West Hollywood along the Sunset Strip.....through gay-town...and then the rest of Santa Monica Blvd on the way back to Hollywood Blvd.
I applaud the fact thought that officials are trying to devise solutions. Hooray for density and LA becoming a grown up CITY.
Vine to Highland is quite walkable, sure, but considering that people pay $20+ for valet service even as the Hollywood/Highland garage (which is $2 once you validate) is half-empty, it's obvious that they're not willing to make that walk. Anything that will allow greater use of existing parking garage space, and reduce the insane parking line backups you see at most clubs, is cool with me.
A Holly Trolley that included the Sunset Strip and west-of-La Cienega Santa Monica Boulevard would definitely be a good Phase II, though.
