Trojan March To History Halted

Vince and Texas leave Trojans in their wake

Two great teams put on one great show at the Rose Bowl. USC and Texas went toe-to-toe in a fitting end to a great BCS Bowl Series. Although the Trojan's bid for a historic third championship in a row fell short 41-38, they can look back with pride at all they accomplished: 34 straight victories, 16 consecutive wins against top 25 teams (a NCAA record), 3 Heisman Trophy winners, and 2 straight National Championships.

The game lived up to all the hype with great performances from both sides. None bigger than Texas quarterback Vince Young's MVP performance. Shedding the disappointment finishing second in the Heisman trophy race to USC's Reggie Bush, he showcased his skills in probably the greatest single championship performance ever running for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns while also throwing for 267 yards on 30-40 passing. Capping his performance with a scramble for the winning touchdown with seconds left to play.

There will be many varying opinions and the usual second guessing of plays that follow big games that are this close. But there can be no doubt that Texas, a slight underdog in some fan's eyes, and carrying a huge chip on their shoulder for over a month, made the big plays when they had to. Led by Vince Young, the Texas Longhorns stopped history, and may have started a little of their own.
