Liquid Sun

While the San Fernando Valley -isters watch the creation of nature-made pools in our backyards and ponder whether or not this is, truly, weather bad enough to prevent bbq-ing, our westside -ist counterparts inform us that the power was out this morning, at least in Brentwood.
The "liquid sun", as one person remarked on the local news this morning, doused the Rose Parade as well forcing, horror of horrors, the Rose Parade queen to don a poncho.
Don't be fooled by our tone, though, this is a severe storm. AccuWeather says:
A POWERFUL PACIFIC STORM SYSTEM WILL CROSS SOUTHWESTERN CALIFORNIA TODAY BRINGING STRONG AND GUSTY SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS TO MUCH OF THE AREA...ESPECIALLY THE HIGHER TERRAIN. WINDS WILL GUST AS HIGH AS 80 MPH THROUGH THE PASSES AND OVER THE PEAKS OF THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. WINDS BLOWING OVER THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS WILL LIKELY CAUSE A MOUNTAIN WAVE TO FORM IN THE LEE OF THE RANGE...OVER THE FOOTHILLS OF THE ANTELOPE VALLEY...WHERE WINDS WILL LOCALLY GUST OVER 70 MPH. ELSEWHERE ACROSS MUCH OF THE LOWER
ELEVATIONS...VERY WINDY CONDITIONS WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH WILL PREVAIL FOR MUCH OF THE DAY...THOUGH DIMINISH OVER THE CENTRAL COAST BY EARLY AFTERNOON.AND FARTHER SOUTH LATER THIS AFTERNOON.
We're going to cuddle up with some christmas presents, maybe beat up on some kids who think they're good at Mario Kart DS and watch the wind and water from a safe vantage point - inside.
