LA Once Had a Transit Strike...

The high temperature in New York City today reached a balmy 35 degrees. Same goes for tomorrow, too. Unfortunately, about 7 million New Yawkers had to hoof, bike or cab-it to work today -- if they went at all -- because of a massive public transportation strike.

While LA had its own public transportation strike a few years back, our car-loving culture barely batted an eye. Those most effected were the lower-income brackets who rely on public transportation the most. We guess that if the 101 and 405 were shut down at the same time through LA county, it would cripple our work livelihoods as much as the mass transit strike is affecting the Big Apple.

Many NYC workers can't afford the $10-$15 each way cab fare, and walking home in the cold is no fun either. And when we say cold, we mean like in the 20s tonight. Think about that LA -- how many of us were in heavy coats and scarves this past weekend when the mercury barely hit 60?
