This is California's execution chamber. Our taxes pay for it, so in some sense it's our responsibility. But right now there's not a darn thing we can do to prevent Stan Tookie Williams from walking in there at 12:01am next Tuesday to die.
It's not like people aren't trying to stop the execution. The NAACP is flying around the state urging clemency, attracting the attention of the press. (There are also those calling for his head. We linked to them last time.) There's the campaign to save Tookie, which has the support of Snoop Dogg, Jesse Jackson, and Jamie Foxx, who played him in a 2004 biopic. If clemency is granted, Tookie will still spend the rest of his life in prison -- his natural life -- with no chance of ever getting out.
The one and only person who can close that execution room door and save Tookie Williams is Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. As the day grows closer, will all the media attention push him towards clemency, or away from it?
China, Iran, Vietnam and the US accounted for 97% of all death penalty executions in 2004. The practice is seen, elsewhere, as barbaric. For example, Austria got rid of its death penalty back in 1950, around the time toddler Arnie turned 3.

Funny how all the anti-violence books and preaching peace have like totally solved the gang problem. Yeah, you never even hear of the Bloods or the Crips anymore. Thanks, Tookie, for bringing peace to the inner city and saving the lives of countless innocent victims of drive-by shootings and illegal drugs. Opposition to the death penalty is legitimate, but you should probably find a different poster-boy.
I'm a Democrat and a supporter of the death penalty. Not for the reasons most people give. I don't think the thought of the gas chamber has detered one crime. I just think some people's crimes are so henious that they forfit the right to live... mostly child molesters.
Question is, Is our boy Tookie one of these people? Is it worth more to society to put him to death as an example, or to keep him alive as an example?
Problem with the latter is what do you do if you commute his sentence to life in prison, then he decides he's a Crip again?
By they way is there anything sillier than "Life in Prison with no parole" Where is the incentive not to kill your fellow inmates, guards, or try to escape? What are they gong to do, bump your sentance up to "Never, EVER, getting out?"
Save Tookie, save the hope and great man he has come to be. Killing him to show that killing is wrong? Waoo, that seems very smart, but then again, what can you expect from certain people...The US death penalty is against human rights, doesn't deter criminals to act, is more costly than life sentences, and relegates its partisan to the barbaric level of the time of gladiators and arena combats. The death penalty does not bring victims back to life, it only makes more victims without solving any of the real problems at the chore of this society.
Can you post of photo of the convenience store that Tookie robbed and where he shot the man? Or the motel where he shot the family?
I am not a believer of the death penalty. If Mr.Williams would have not gotten caught, he would most likely still be a part of the gang. I think they should let him stay alive in jail.

While I find them brash and cliche, John and Ken (http://www.johnandken.com) have obtained and posted photographs of the victims and crime scenes. Before you utter a syllable in defense of this animal, you shuld have a look at them.
Although "Eye for an Eye" is Old Testament, Kathey, you have legitimate argument. The Bible makes it perfectly clear that not only are we supposed to live by his commandments but that we are also to abide by the laws of our land. Not only did Tookie break Gods commandment he also broke the law that is punishable by death. He took his turn playing God and taking other peoples lives like they had no right to live. He would have never written any books if he had been just a liitle better criminal. Plus I resent the fact that tax payers had to keep this idiot alive, feed, clothe, and house him so long, so he could sit around writing books. He would still be out there sending other people to Heaven before (as you say)the Lord calles them home. Another thing your confused about Lene, we have a free will and you will suffer for your sins here on Earth and on Judgement Day.
