The nominees for the 2004-2005 Ovation Awards have been announced. You can read the full list here. The Ovations are an annual peer-judged awards ceremony for Los Angeles theatre, and are voted on by represesntatives from the member theatre companies of LA Stage Alliance.

One of LAIST's favorites, the Antaeus Company, the North Hollywood-based classical theatre ensemble, has two nominations in a very strong field, Ensemble Performance. They are nominated for Mother Courage (read the LAIST review here) and Pera Palas. The rest of the list includes Happy End at PRT, Killer Joe at Lost Angels, The Paris Letter at KDT, Songs for A New World at the Rubicon, and Stuff Happens at the Taper. (A nod to Gordon Davidson's last production, although he wasn't nominated for direction.)

We are also very pleased to see Adrian Sparks and the Open Fist Theatre Company acknowledged for acting, light & set design for his one-man show PAPA, about Ernest Hemingway's last days.

The Ovation Awards will take place at the Orpheum downtown on November 14 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now: you can also call (213) 614-0556.
