Hellbent Carves a New Niche

Halloween-themed slasher movies are as common as buttered bread. The bad plots, gratuitous squirting blood and painful dialogue make us wonder why the flicks are so popular. But every year, our Netflix queue is filled with scary movies like Halloween, Scream, Silence of the Lambs and The Shining. Let's face it, it's human nature. We all enjoy a good scare.

Here! Films is hoping to add a new twist on the horror/slasher genre. In addition to the usual tricks of the trade, all the main characters are gay. LAist wishes there was something more to say than this. But, honestly, Hellbent is a run-of-the-mill slasher movie. We applaud the idea, but the movie left us wanting a bit more in the realm of plot and character development.

LA is on of the few cities showing the movie. If you're curious, you can draw your own conclusions during its limited LA engagement (9/16-9/22). For more info, see the Reagent website, or call (323) 934-2944.
