Vegan Vixens... Soy Vey

9 on the town-vegan vixens

In a town where carrot juice, wheat grass and soy mocha lattes are commonplace, it takes a lot to surprise us. However, KCAL's 9 On The Town did just that tonight. The program spotlighted a group of veggie-minded ladies who call themselves Vegan Vixens. Spearheaded by mother hen Sky Valencia, the group looks more like a collection of campy Baywatch castaways than serious foodies.

Until recently, the crunchy Vegan lifestyle has been fairly commercial-free (if not misunderstood). A notable celebrity exception is Alicia Silverstone, who promoted the diet in her ill-fated NBC series Miss Match. However, it appears that the Vegan Vixens are here to carry on the media torch (and spice things up)... much to the chagrin of serious Vegans.

The Vixens claim to be doing this for "ethical" reasons, though the porn-style poses they strike belied their words. Ditto for the slow-motion taste tests they did on KCAL 9. We rarely spend that much time eating a chickenless tofu wing. Then again, we rarely have that much fun. Perhaps there's something to the Vixens after all.

For those who dig this ridiculous California-infused fun, The Vegan Vixen Show now airs in Hollywood on Comcast Public Access Channel 24.

Hey, if it helps promote Vegan awareness, what's the harm? Especially if the cheescake is dairy-free.
