• As Hurricane Katrina evacuees arrive in town, area schools will accept their students.
• The Dream Center needs goods while other local non-relief charities worry that Katrina will limit donations to their programs.
• Speaking of donations, martini republic points out you can help NOLA beverage workers while the Dodgers continue their amazing effort to assist those effected.
• Not all charity work has a happy ending, though. Some angelenos taking supplies south met with vandalism and attempted robbery in El Paso. That won't stop LA County Sheriffs from sending a rescue team to Louisiana.
• While a joint county-city task force was started, the head of the AFL-CIO blasted President Bush and the federal response to the disaster. Unlike Kanye, he didn't say "Bush doesn't care about black people" but rather doesn't care about workers and their families.
• And while all this is going on, smart people are trying to figure out how to build a better levee.
