Take the Train

laist_amtrak

We're not quite sure what The Amazing Race has to do with it but the Sac Bee (login required) decided to figure out how long it takes to get from Sacramento to LA without the use of a car. Amtrak will take you about eight hours assuming you go the Bakersfield route. Going along the coast is likely to take you much longer and you can expect delays (if you're taking the train, though, you're probably not in a rush right? We'd take this roundabout way just for the scenery). Greyhound, on the other hand, can take you anywhere from seven to ten and a half hours as they have to deal with traffic.

Sac Bee Staff Writer Reed Parsell also talks briefly about our local bus and metro service but doesn't give any details about trip time or quality. Maybe after all that time on the trains and travel busses, he jumped in a cab or rented his own ride instead of travelling the city in MTA style.
