Passing Strange

ShakespeareGrave2.jpg

What is going on with Shakespeare Festival Los Angeles? First they announce that they are low on money and may not be able to do their summer outdoor performances in Pershing Square. Then they announce that they will have a performance after all, on the plaza of the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, and that the play will be The Comedy of Errors. They just did The Comedy of Errors in 2001. It was a competent, accessible performance of what is basically a piece of Shakespearean fluff. Given a potential selection of 37 Shakespeare plays, they do The Comedy of Errors again just four years later?

According to the Shakespeare Festival LA site, the play will be performed by the Aquila Theater Company, which is based in New York City. They have to import actors from New York? We don't have enough of them here?

We hope that there are some cases of mistaken perception, or further plot twists, in this situation, because so far, we're seeing what look more like errors in judgment, and not laughing.
