Racquet Attack

The best college tennis is back in SoCal. The UCLA men's tennis squad showed all of Texas who was boss on the hard courts, as the Bruins beat Baylor in College Station, TX for a national championship.

Of course this wasn't the only national title for a SoCal team this spring. The Pepperdine men's volleyball team made waves at Pauley Pavilion, beating UCLA on their home floor to win its first national championship since 1992.

And we'd be remiss if we didn't mention UCLA's women's water polo team winning a national championship, after completing a perfect season. The win, coupled with Joe Axelrad and the UCLA men's water polo team winning a national title in the fall, caps an incredible year for athletic director Dan Guerrero and his program. Too often we just look at men's basketball and football in judging an athletic department, but three national titles in one year, two in a season, and reaching three finals in one season, is an accomplishment that deserves more praise.
