Get Your Rally On

Moveon.Org is hosting emergency rallies across the country (and several locally including ones in Long Beach, Riverside, Laguna Beach, Santa Ana, and Ventura) today to protest the push for the "nuclear option" --removing the filibuster as a way to block the passage of law and appointments-- by Senate Republicans. Senator Frist's threats are his way of side-stepping Senate Democrats who want to block several of President Bush's judicial nominees.

Hasn't Frist ever seen Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? The filibuster is as Congressional as it gets.

Anyway, we won't be making it to the rally this afternoon but we'd love pictures of any of them if an enterprising LAist reader wanted to send them our way. The most accessible for LA residents is the one happening downtown at 5pm:

Los Angeles Federal Courthouse, 312 N. Spring St.
312 N. Spring St.
Los Angeles, CA

I saw the Laguna Beach protest, which had about 50 people; however, I couldn't quite tell what they were protesting for/against as I drove past. At least I know now.
