Ryan Seacrest...IN!

According to American Idol and FOX, Ryan Seacrest, popular host of American Idol and morning drive-time jock on KIIS 102.7 FM will be receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Wednesday, April 20th at 11:30AM.

The star, which will be awarded to Seacrest for his long illustrious career in radio, will coincide with American Idol slashing yet another OK singer thus bringing the total wannabe quotient down to the Final 6 performers.

Sadly, LAist must admit that yes, this time, we can't really complain about giving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to someone like Seacrest. Sure, he's more a cartoon than a real person with his lingo and his clothing and his media connection to one of the most overblown reality TV shows in history -- but at least the guy isn't getting his star as a marketing gimmick, to coincide with the finale of his TV show or to boost KIIS FM's Arbitron ratings during a particularly sweeps-esque period.

He's just plain getting a star because the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has lost their will to live. Or, if we're being more specific -- lost their will to make the Hollywood Walk of Fame back into something worth "ooh'ing and aah'ing" about. And let's just say, the sharks can smell the blood in the water.

Case in point? The Video Game Industry's recent petition to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to allow video game characters (i.e. cartoons) like Nintendo's famous Mario the Plumber into the running for stars on the Walk of Fame as well. We can't fault them, can we? When people who don't deserve stars get handed them, well, before long can we really fault Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog and the easy corner biatch from Grand Theft Auto from wanting one, too?

Congratulations, Ryan. Really, we're stoked for you.
