• The UCLA Hammer Museum presents a Hammer Lecture by Sylvia Plachy tonight at 7 PM. She will discuss the work in her new book, Self-Portrait with Cows Going Home.
WEDNESDAY
• The Knitting Factory hosts The New Year with Silkworm and Doris Henson at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $12.
• MOCA presents a screening of the film This Not That – The Artist John Baldessari, with an introduction by filmmaker Jan Schmidt-Garre, and featuring interviews with Baldessari, Ed Ruscha, David Salle and Mike Kelley, at 7 PM. Admission is free, but reservations are required; call (213) 621-1776.
THURSDAY
• Indie 103 presents The Wedding Present with Crystal Skulls at the Troubadour tonight. Doors open at 8 PM; tickets are $15 advance.
• At the Hotel Cafe, see AM with Buddy, Brad Byrd, Single File and others TBA, starting at 8 PM.
• The Viper Room features the Rolling Blackouts, Willowz and The Prix. Doors open at 8:30 PM.

• At the Egyptian Theatre, an 8:00 PM screening of Raging Bull preceded by a boxing demonstration by former Golden Gloves Champion Mickey Jones in the courtyard at 7:30 PM.
• KPCC standard Larry Mantle will be signing his new book, This is AirTalk, at Dutton's Brentwood Bookstore tonight at 7 PM.
• Legendary graphic designer Milton Glaser will be speaking tonight at Art Center's Ahmanson Theatre. The lecture is free, but LAist recommends showing up well before the 7:30 PM start time.
• It's opening night for Andres Serrano's new show at The Erotic Museum. The History of Sex will officially open its doors at 7 PM. Tickets are $12.95, and you have until 11 PM to enjoy all the titilation you can handle.
• At the Huntington Library, Los Angeles documentary filmmakers Todd and Robin Mason will present a lecture titled "Palomar's 200-inch Telescope: The Impossible Challenge" in Friends' Hall.
FRIDAY
• The Troubadour features Q & Not U with Food for Animals and Manhunter. Tickets are $10 advance, $12 day of; doors open at 8 PM.
• Crooked Fingers will perform with Dolorean at the Knitting Factory. Tickets are $12 and the show starts at 8 PM.
• Perennial loudmouth Henry Rollins will perform at McCabe's twice: 8 and 10 PM. The $15 tickets will benefit the Hollygrove Orphanage.

• Rhett Miller will make a solo appearance at Largo tonight at 8 PM.

• LACMA continues the series "Through a Lens Darkly: The Classic Films of Ingmar Bergman" at 7:30 PM. Tonight features screenings of new 35mm prints of Wild Strawberries and The Magician.
• For those interested in some hands-on activity, the Huntington Library will hold two workshops: from 10 AM — 2 PM, learn how to make hand-stitched journals ($45 members/$55 non-members); from 1 PM — 4 PM, Stephen Tabor, Curator of Early Printed Books, will teach participants how to read the handwriting of 16th-century Elizabethan England ($20 members/$30 non-members).
