The Weekender

While we're heading over to Granada Hills Charter School to see a teenager that we love perform as the lead in a high school production of Up the Down Staircase tonight, you can go dancing. If you're an Aries, maybe you want to go to Zodiac, a monthly birthday dance party at The Larchmont. Azul (who is an Aquarius) and the gang spin some funky rhythms for you inside while the real party might be Hip Hop Karaoke on the patio. If we weren't already booked, you might've found us out there doing our best Ice Cube impersonations. Other dance spots tonight: Elephonic does a live set at The Joint and DJ Halo takes over The Conga Room.

Tomorrow night we've got the bloggers meetup. After that, we're heading east where we'll try to figure out how we can catch Deerhoof at The Echo and Killola at Spaceland when they are likely playing at the same time. We'll probably stick with Killola. How can you ignore an LA rock band that drove their van to Austin for South By to perform? Don't they just look so "Almost Famous" in that pic? They probably hate that description but its appropriate. Killola goes on at midnight.

Sunday, if we're not completely worn out, we're going to try to make it to Cinespace for the launch party of Fonogenic. Fonogenic is a new music download site with "discerning taste." We're just hoping that the free African Rum has a discerning taste when it flows between 8 and 9 PM.
