The New York Post reports on a star-studded party at The Argyle over the weekend that featured the likes of Orlando Bloom, Cristina Ricci, and Drew Barrymore among others. The lede, however, is about Anna Wintour to which our immediate response was, "Who the hell is Anna Wintour?"
Oh, she's the editor of American Vogue. We read on to see that she was throwing a party for Maria Mario Testino to which our immediate response was, "Who the hell is Maria Mario Testino?"
Huh. Maybe this is why LA's fashion scene doesn't get the respect it probably deserves. We can't be bothered to know the names of the fashionistas when Salma Hayek is in the audience.
Maybe we should pay more attention to the words of Clothes Hoarse instead of just looking at all the pretty pictures.

I don't think that's true of Angelenos, I think that's just you. And it's Mario Testino, not Maria. He's a fashion photographer.
I think this is pretty dead on. I was at a party with her this weekend, many folks had no idea who she was. I was a little surprised myself, since The Devil Wears Prada did so well.
In an unscientific straw poll of 20 people around the office, 5 of whom actually went to Fashion Week events, only 2 knew Anna Wintour by name...and mostly because they read gawker and/or "The Devil Wears Prada".
I confess to knowing the book but not the name of the author or where she came from.
C'est la vie.
A person only has so much room in his brain for half-witted fashion garbage. Don't sweat it. (Although I will always remember that you thought Testino was a Maria! Hee!)
you honestly have to be mildly retarded to be involved with media and not know who anna wintour is. this website used to be a really neat, smart, informative blog.
you've taken it to a definite low.
That's not true and your comment is unnecessarily cold. Never take the haters to heart, LAist. Please continue to learn, grow and improve.
man, even I know who Mario Testino is, and I'm so far out of the loop it's scary. U R teh ghey.
