Site Notes

This story is free to read because readers choose to support LAist. If you find value in independent local reporting, make a donation to power our newsroom today.

LAist doesn't know if we've formally introduced our recent crop of new contributors to the site but Carolyn Kellogg, Lindsay William-Ross, and Kevin Kelly have all started writing for us sometime in the last month.

Our most recent addition is Josh Strike. We're not quite sure what to make of Josh. We're convinced he only wakes when the sun goes down and that being connected to him will probably get us arrested or high. Or arrested for being high.

LAist lives for danger.

Our resident events queen, Marleigh, is without the internet until later this week so we don't expect to update the weekly "happenings" list until Wednesday at the earliest.

We are always on the lookout for new contributors. Right now we've got a special interest in people who like local theatre and someone with the inside scoop on what's going on in our local college community.

And just about anybody else with a unique view of the city. If you're interested, drop us a line.

LAist will be at SXSW from the 11th through the 17th. Let us know if you'll be there as well. We'd love to meet ya and buy you a drink (or at least find someplace where we both can get a free drink).

Are you a local flickr detective that we don't already have on our friends list? We'd love to see your stuff.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
