The Morning's Story: Hollywood Celebrates Itself

If you want Oscars coverage, Gothamist and Chicagoist blogged the shows and Tony Pierce has a transcript of the political portion of Chris Rock's monologue (which we missed while we were in traffic going to an Oscar party). Based on the transcript, we're bummed we didn't see it because that was pretty funny.

Our only Oscar thoughts come from the party. We hollered for Jay-Z and Beyonce; we decided Hillary Swank's dress was the equivalent of a fashion mullet: business in the front, party in the back (apparently we're not as uniquely funny as we thought as the go fug yourself ladies made the same joke); speaking of Hillary, we wished she would've thanked Pat Morita and then wondered if she would thank Tom Mencken...right after we did, she did because we're psychic; we didn't like the changes in the show but we loved its brevity.

As for the other awards ceremonies of the weekend, Halle showed up to accept her Razzie for Catwoman. Catwoman and Fahrenheit 9/11 cleaned up the show for futility. Sideways was the star of the Independent Spirit Awards (but we have to wonder how Independent is the lovely Salma Hayek's spirit when she came to the show with not one but two assistants). The movie we ended the weekend most wanting to see? Born Into Brothels.
