Cock-A-Doodle-Do!

Hopefully the rain will soon be on its way out, so that everyone can enjoy the Chinese New Year festivities planned for this Saturday at The Huntington. The event, celebrating the Year of the Rooster, will begin at 10:30 AM with a traditional Chinese flower market in the Huntington's entrance pavilion, including plum blossoms (symbolizing the beginning of spring), peonies (prosperity), narcissus (longevity), and other blooms such as orchids, forsythia, camellias, and golden mums available for sale.

The festival runs until 4:30 PM, and the day's activities include:

• Lion dancers and martial arts — 11 AM and 1 PM

• Folk dancers — 11:30 AM

• Storytelling — 12:30 PM

• Chinese musicians — 1:30 and 3:30 PM

• Chinese painting demonstration — 2:30 PM

• Public talk on the symbolic and botanical importance of plants and flowers during the Chinese New Year — 2:30 PM

• Traditional Chinese crafts will be available day, including dough doll-making, paper cutting, knotting and lantern making for kids, and Chinese calligraphy workshops for teens and adults.

All activities are included with general admission, which costs $15 fo radults, $12 for seniors, $10 for students (12-18), $6 for children (5-11), and free for members and children under 5.
