Overheard

Los Angeles airports are wonderful places for evesdropping- so many fascinating people, so many interesting stories, and all under one proverbial roof... While casually browsing the books in the United terminal of LAX, right next door to Wolfgang Puck’s Pizza joint, LAist observed this exchange:

Woman: (mid-to-late 30’s, upscale entertainment professional look) “George, here, I want this. Get this for me. George…”

The woman places a copy of Augusten Burroughs’ “Running With Scissors” onto a pile in George’s hands. George (mid-to-late 20’s, wearing a faded “Hollywood Homicide” T-Shirt) is nonplussed. He doesn’t look up. The woman spins around and begins to check out the magazines. George and LAist keep browsing. He thumbs past Al Franken’s “Liars” and “Charlie Wilson’s War” before he gets to the golden goose: “Good in Bed” by Jennifer Weiner. He picks it up, then places it back down.

Now the woman comes back over, a handful of magazines in her hand that she dumps on George. She looks down at the books and sees the "golden goose." She picks it up and places it in the pile George is carrying.

“Here,” she says matter of factly, “You really need to read this.”

George sighs, and resolutely steps into line.

Woman: “Let’s go George! I’m waiting!”

LAist chuckles to ourselves…

Poor George... and you know he ended up stuck next to her for a several hour flight to somewhere with the constant reminders of how he isn't reading this or that.
