Sewage Stew

Mayor Sam's Sister City blog informs us that the City of Los Angeles proposes to increase the sewer service fees in order to cover escalating sewage treatment costs. The City wants to increase fees over a five year period, starting March 1, 2005.
The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works has issued a "helpful" FAQ for those playing at home and has scheduled a slew of community meetings (see below for the list) to explain the changes.
The Los Angeles City Council will hold a public hearing on this matter on February 2, 2005 at 10:00 a. m. in the
John Ferraro Council Chamber, Room 340, City Hall, 200 North Spring Street, Los Angeles, California 90012.
Written comments on the proposed rate changes may be submitted at the public hearing or mailed to the City
Clerk, 200 North Spring Street, Room 395, Los Angeles, California 90012, no later than 5:00 p. m. on February 1,
2005.
